About Gorran Kendall

Gorran Kendall is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is a member of The Big Push alongside Ren, Romain Axisa, and Glenn Chambers. He describes his style this way: "I have a variety of different songs; though most incorporate contemporary and popular musical styles, they have their roots in country, folk and rock music. To name a few artists who have inspired me: The Sex Pistols, David Bowie, Jack White, Bob Dylan and many many more." He grew up around Southampton. He began playing violin at the age of 8, then began taking piano lessons at around 10 till around 14. He started playing bass at around 13, learning to play punk tunes, then branching out at 15 into other genres. He planned to attend the music school BIMM Institute [in Brighton?] for a bass course, but switched to singing and songwriting at the last minute at around 19. While at university, Gorran met some guys in a blues band, which resonated with his own musical tastes. He began busking with them, which became his main way to support himself. In 2015, he went on a busking/hitchhiking trip around Europe, which he credits as a turning point in widening his life experience and giving him more to write songs about, as well as strengthening his voice and his confidence. He finished university in 2016. The Big Push Gorran began encountering an "elegantly dressed Frenchman" playing blues guitar on the streets of Brighton; they nodded to each other frequently, but didn't speak until one evening a very tired Gorran parked himself on a bench nearby after a party, enjoying the music with his eyes closed until Romain Axisa finished his playing and came over to chat. They hit it off quickly, and went to play together at an open mic night that same night, discovering instant chemistry. Gorran and Romain begin busking together frequently for the summer, making enough money that Romain eventually gives up his job as a waiter. By this time Ren and Romain were sharing a flat, and Gorran began spending more time with both of them, discovering Ren's personality and talents were another great match for his own. The first time the three played together as a trio was during Brighton's Pride celebrations in August 2017; during the late summer and fall, they busked around town as a trio, until they lured Glenn Chambers away from his previous band to become their full-time drummer. The Big Push began to gain some viral fame in 2018 and 2019, eventually playing official shows in venues in Brighton and around the UK in 2021 and 2022. After The Big Push After personal needs led to the dissolution of The Big Push in September of 2022, Gorran continued busking in Brighton, made some tentative plans to find another band and/or record some of his solo work, before setting off on a new hitchhiking and busking tour of Europe.
