Their debut album "GONE WILD" was released in January 2007. - Mid-2007 the band recorded a cover of the Yardbirds classic "For Your Love" to rave reviews, people seemed to like the classic rock arrangement that was given to this cover, with nods to some of their influences including Steve Stevens (Billy Idol/Atomic Playboys), this track was given away as a free download for fans as a bit of a taster of things to come. - "GONE WILD II" recording sessions commenced mid-2007, with a 2CD release planned for early 2009. "Escape" was released on the Skater Rock Vol 1-3, 3 disc set by Versailles Records in March 2008. "Rock This World" is featured on the Anthem Rock Vol 1-2 disc set by Versailles Records to be released in 2009. Although now not a full-time member, Nils-Ole Finbak has contributed to the 2nd GONE WILD album. The Band: Rob Smith: -------------- A live performer for many years with the bands The Bronx, The Candles, Snapdragon, The Hiway Blues Band and currently Quadraphonic (with GW member Matt Sturgess on bass, and session sax player Robin Wellaway is also part of this band). Rob Smith released his debut album "Be Careful What You Wish For" in 2005, this was followed up in 2006 by "Actions Speak Louder Than Words". 2008 saw Rob's production skills realised in a whole other genre, country music, for he is the son of English country music pioneer Houston Wells. Rob wrote, performed and produced many of the tracks on the Houston Wells released "Then & Now" released by Jasmine Records in March 2008. Rob and Houston have co-written many recordings over the years, it is hoped that more of their collaborations will be released in time. Currently Rob is working on many different projects including his next solo album "Never A Dull Moment". Collaborative projects that Rob Smith is associated with as writer/performer and producer: - Rob Smith, Hayley Oliver & Richard Anderson present "Something To Remember" - this collection is a crossover of country, pop and rock music with english country singer Hayley Oliver contributing her vocal skills. As with his other projects, Richard Anderson has co-written (mostly lyrics) for this project. - Carol Smith - "Tranquility" - Rob's wife Carol is a lovely singer having co-fronted the live unit Crazy Paving in Taranaki, New Zealand for the best part of a decade. "Tranquility" is her long-awaited solo album which is currently in production. - Rob Smith & Nils-Ole Finbak - "Atmospheres" - This project has been a long-held ambition to have been made, mostly piano-vocal recordings, each of these songs exude feeling. Richard Anderson ------------------------ New to the studio recording lark (as he calls it), Richard has spent many years collaborating as a songwriter-lyricist with artists all over the world. "GONE WILD" was his first professional recording experience. Currently Richard is working with Rob Smith on several collaborative projects as well as having contributed as a songwriting partner for various Rob Smith solo projects (including both of his current albums in circulation). Richard plans to eventually get back to writing with other artists but in the meantime he is buoyed by the experience of being a part of something unique in the NZ music scene. Several collaborative projects are in the works, most notably with longtime collaborator/friend Chris Szkup (who features as a regular guest on GONE WILD recordings) Asked weither he will delve into making a solo album at any time, Richard is hard pressed to deny this ever happening but at this stage has nothing concrete planned. Matt Sturgess ------------------- "GONE WILD" was Matt's introduction to the world of the professional recording artist, it didn't take long for him to wet his appetite however, as well as contributing his skills to the follow-up album, Matt has been an indemand session musician and has also got plans to release a solo album "when it's done". Coming from a blues-rock background, a lot of that influence is indeed engrained in the GONE WILD sound, Richard and Rob knew they had the right guy onboard when it came down to looking for band members due to the fact that Matt is intelligent and likes to have a good time (and has a great sense of humour to boot). Not restricted to being just a bass player, Matt is also a rhythm guitarist and has been teaching himself harmonica and also does a bit of singing as well. Matt appears on Rob Smith's "Never A Dull Moment" album alongside his GW co-horts.
