About Gavino Murgia

Gavino Murgia was born in Nuoro (Sardinia, Italy). He started to study music and alto saxophone since he was fourteen years old, as self taught. Soon he started an intense musical activity playing whit several light music bands and also in various theatrical contexts. The kind of music on which above all he focused his attention is jazz. He has played with many bands in the most important italian and international Jazz festival; Poland, Austria, Spanish, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, France, Russia, South Africa, Cuba, USA. Among the jazz musicians, he played with Mal Waldron, Rabih Abou Khalil, Paolo Fresu, Don Moye, Gianluigi Trovesi, Michel Godard, Pietro Tonolo, Djivan Gasparian, Sainkho Namchylak, Al Di Meola and others. His present search concerns the sonorities of Sardinian music and particularly the use of voice whit a saxophone and other typical instruments of this island, in a modern musical context.
