About Fertile Virgin
Fertile Virgin: Donna Sartanowicz - Bass Leslie Dell'Elce Grinley - Drums Bonnie Wiess - Drums Julie Kantner - Guitar Trisha Matthews - Guitar and everybody sang! In Boston in the late 1980's the remnants of the Fertile Virgin Choir, (Big Dippers sometimes backup singers) joined with two girls who hung out with the Volcano Suns a lot and also played guitars. The result was Fertile Virgin, a tumultuous D.I.Y. girl band that pummeled their way through their songs with 2 drummers and up to 5 vocals at a time. They released a three song 7" on Harriet Records in 1990 that included the songs "Lucky Day", "Mashima", and "Dum Dum". In 1990 Bonnie Wiess left and the band was reduced to one drummer. The 4 piece recorded some new songs and had a minor college radio hit with the song "Tefnut" about a man-eating pet cat. The band broke up in 1991 after which there was the release of one last song, "My 3 Suns" appeared on the Harriet Records compilation "The Long Secret" in 1995. Julie Kantner and Trisha Matthews went on to form the band Twig.
