About Enuff Z'Nuff

Enuff Z'Nuff are an American rock band from Blue Island, Illinois, formed in 1984 under the original spelling “Enough Z'Nuff.” The band’s name is a sensational spelling of the term “enough’s enough.” The founding members included lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and keyboardist Donnie Vie, bassist Chip Z'Nuff, lead guitarist Gino Martino, and drummer B.W. Boeski. The group soon grew a live following and recorded their first demo songs, some of which would be officially released later in their career. Their first single, “Fingers on It,” gained minor recognition when featured in the 1986 movie Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Martino would leave the band and be replaced by Pete Comita, who was then replaced by Alex Kane in 1987. By 1989, the band had revised their name to “Enuff Z'Nuff” and released a self-titled debut album on ATCO Records, featuring the lineup of Vie, Z'Nuff, ex-Le Mans guitarist Derek Frigo, and drummer Vikki Foxx. The album produced two hit singles, “New Thing” and “Fly High Michelle,” which received heavy rotation on MTV. Despite being promoted as a glam metal band, the group considered themselves more aligned with power pop. Their follow-up album, “Strength,” was released in 1991 to critical acclaim, including a Rolling Stone endorsement, though it failed commercially. Singles “Mother’s Eyes” and “Baby Loves You” received promotional videos and a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman. After financial struggles and leaving ATCO, they signed with Arista Records for the 1993 album “Animals with Human Intelligence.” Before its release, Foxx left the band and was replaced by drummer Ricky Parent. The album received critical praise but suffered commercially. Shortly after, Derek Frigo departed, though he occasionally recorded with the band. Despite these changes, Enuff Z'Nuff continued recording and touring, gaining a dedicated fanbase overseas. Highlights included appearances on The Howard Stern Show, The Jenny Jones Show, and VH1 features on hair bands. They opened for Poison on the 2001 “Glam Slam Metal Jam” tour. Donnie Vie left the band for the first time in 2002 to pursue a solo career, and lead guitarist Johnny Monaco took over as lead vocalist. Tragedy struck when Derek Frigo died from a drug overdose in 2004, shortly before a planned Japanese reunion tour between the “classic” Z'Nuff lineup was set to take place. Ricky Parent would pass away from cancer in 2007 after being diagnosed with it a few months earlier. In 2008, Vie and Z'Nuff reunited for recording sessions, resulting in the 2009 album “Dissonance,” featuring guitarist Jake E. Lee. Vie rejoined live performances briefly, but left again in 2013 for reasoning similar to his first depature. Johnny Monaco returned as frontman. In May of 2014, guitarist Tory Stoffregen and drummer Randi Scott departed. Drummer Erik Donner joined, while Z'Nuff took over lead vocals in 2016 after Monaco left. Z'Nuff has kept the lead vocal role since then. The lineup included the return of Stoffregen, rhythm guitarist Tony Fennell (formerly of Ultravox), and drummer Daniel B. Hill. The band released “Clowns Lounge” in 2016, featuring unreleased demos from the late ‘80s. Their first new studio album with Z'Nuff on vocals, “Diamond Boy,” came out in August of 2018. In 2019, Fennell left the band, which marked the return of Alex Kane. In 2020, the band released “Brainwashed Generation.” A 3-CD set of unreleased demos, “Never Enuff,” followed in 2021, along with a Beatles tribute album, “Enuff Z'Nuff’s Hardrock Nite.” Their latest studio album, “Finer Than Sin,” was released in November 2022. Hill would then leave the band, and Stoffregen left in November of 2024. The band’s current lineup includes Chip Z'Nuff on lead vocals and bass, guitarist Jason Camino, and drummer Chris Densky. Despite numerous lineup changes and personal losses, Enuff Z'Nuff remains active, continuing to tour and release new music while preserving their legacy as a unique blend of power pop and hard rock.
