About Energy 2000

Energy 2000 refers to: 1. A space rock band from Richmond, VA 2. A dance club in Poland that frequently showcases techno/trance artists 1. The band Energy 2000 started out as the lo-fi bedroom space rock project of Virginia native Ian Robinson. The project was first conceived the day before Thanksgiving 2012 in a grimy apartment on West Cary Street in Richmond, Virginia. Aided by a case of beer, a string of Christmas lights, a $60 Yamaha keyboard, a few old guitars, and GarageBand, brothers Taylor and Ian Robinson charted a course for the cosmos. The early days consisted of bizarre instrumental recordings and freak-out experiments with old-timey 1950s sci-fi radio shows. Over the years Energy 2000 evolved into a slightly more polished space rock project, channeling the spirits and voices of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts as a way of celebrating the early days of spaceflight. The first proper EP, the five-track “Mercury-Redstone 3,” was released in August 2013 and featured news broadcast audio from Alan Shepard’s sub-orbital flight on May 5th, 1961. All album covers come from photographs of earth from outer space, taken throughout the 1960s by the astronauts of Project Gemini. The single “Zodiacal Light” was released in February 2016 by Cleopatra Records as part of their sprawling 5-disc Psych Box collection.
