About Dualstyles

Uniting the worlds of Hip Hop and Hard Rock, a sound not found so easily. From the rich culture of Chicago, IL, hard rock/hip hop band Dualstyles was formed in 2005 by singer-songwriter Bryant Brown and rapper MarKellz (aka K3LLZ). At this time the band of two called themselves Contrast. Until 2006 after coming across other bands with the same name, it was time for a change. The title Dualstyles had a literal and straight forward meaning. Since the band creates music that normally has elements from two or more styles of music; it only seemed appropriate. After making a few demo tracks with rapper MarKellz. The two put together an EP titled Kiss n’ Fly containing the band’s earliest work. It was around late 2006 Bryant became friends with Mickey Grayer (DJ Two14). At this point Mickey was already establishing himself as a DJ. So when Bryant asked DJ Two14 to join Dualstyles it was the start of good things to come. After DJ Two14’s induction, Dualstyles started work on their first album entitled From Past to Future in 2007. It was around this time Mickey introduced guitarist Thomas Hardy. The band was finally starting to take shape as they finished production of their album at Bryant’s bedroom project studio and released it in July of 2008. Since the first release of that album, Mickey and Bryant have been working on establishing their company ILbeatz Productions by working with other local artists. However, due living situations Marvin Kelley had to drop out of the band. In 2009, due to the growing popularity of From Past to Future, Dualstyles remixed and remastered the album for a 2010 re-release. Since the beginning of 2010, with the parting of guitarist Thomas Hardy and Bryant’s youngest brother Brent Brown officially joined as the drummer, the band seemed to be in limbo with their progressing future. Later that year in the fall, Brent started developing his producing skills by composing a number of tracks. He brought to the attention a song he wrote called 7 (seven), a metal track that fused the sounds of electronica and dance, to Bryant and Mickey. This was soon to become a stable in the new sound Dualstyles was building. The songs Whole, Nothing Left, September, and Built to Survive were produced along with 7 and were scheduled for release in late 2011. During Dualstyles’ down time in May of 2011, Bryant’s first younger brother Blake Brown offered to join the band as a guitarist. It was after things calmed down with Blake’s past music endeavors he was able to join the band. With Blake’s induction he also introduced his friend Charles Hopson who played bass in a previous band with Blake. Not long after, Blake and Charles quickly got into the swing of things after a couple practice sessions and the band Dualstyles was complete. A diverse sound and a unique look/appeal was sure to garden them attention when they landed their first live performance at The Elbo Room in Chicago on September 27, 2011.
