DOOT! plays 100% improvised music that incorporates avante garde jazz, electronica and touches of psychedelic rock. The group describes their music as drawing a curvy line between free jazz and post-rock and connecting the dots between Sun Ra and Sonic Youth. The band started in New Haven, CT with Pete Brunelli, Steve Chillemi met guitarist Andre Cholmondeley, who had played with Frank Zappa and Don Preston as part of the Don Preston Trio. The band later added Nate Trier on keyboards.
