About Donn Reynolds

Donn Reynolds (born June 26, 1921 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, died August 16, 1997 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada), also known as Canada's "King of the Yodelers", was a country singer and yodeler who established two yodeling world records. Donn was born in St. Vital, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Influenced by Harry Hopkinson (aka Harry Torrani), a popular British yodeler during the 1930's, Reynolds taught himself to sing and play guitar at 10 years of age. A former International Yodel Champion, winning the title at the Pacific National Exhibition in 1950, Reynolds also won the 1956 United States Yodeling Championship in Washington DC, claiming the title "World's Champion Yodeler". Reynolds released recordings on MGM, Columbia, and RCA labels including hit singles Texas Yodel, Bella Belinda, Hasta Luego, and Afraid. Throughout the 50's, he performed on countless stages and television shows worldwide including the Grand Ole Opry, Bavarian Opry, Louisiana Hayride, WLS National Barn Dance, El Circo De Madrid, WWVA Jamboree, KRLD Big D Jamboree, Cross Canada Barn Dance and his own regular TV show TV Rangers. His acting credits include the films Eureka Stockade (1949), Arena (1953), and the lead role as Davy Crockett in the British musical. In 1960, during a 2 year performing tour of Europe, Reynolds met and married Audrey Williams (of British singing trio Three Skylarks) in Poulton, England. Audrey changed her name to Cindy and the newlyweds combined vocal talents as Cindy joined Donn on stage for much of his tour before returning to Canada in 1961. Throughout the 60's, the couple developed a smooth duet lounge club act performing on radio and television across the U.S. and Canada, and in most major Canadian night clubs from coast-to-coast. In 1971, Reynolds resumed a solo career when Audrey retired from entertaining after giving birth to their 2nd child. Reynolds remained in Canada throughout the 70's, performing across the country on stages, radio, television, and in the studio releasing 5 albums. In 1976 Reynolds set the world record for the longest yodel by yodeling non-stop for 7 hours and 29 minutes. In 1984 he established a world record for the fastest yodel by achieving five tones (three falsettos) in 1.9 seconds...achievements that earned him fame in both the Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley's Believe It or Not! www.donnreynolds.com
