About Divide & Conquer
Meet Sydney's latest offspring of pop punk. Divide & Conquer are five dedicated, talented & passionate young men from Sydney, Australia. Formed in June 2011, following the demise of previous band Worst Case Scenario, after almost a decade of battling it out. A clean slate was for the best. "The songs we were writing at the time, didn't sound like "WCS" anymore so we decided to pack it in & start again", says Lorenzo La Cava. With a newly found focus they considered adding an extra member to bring the highly energetic raw material to life. "I wanted to improve on becoming a better guitar player. Have somebody else to take the lead duty & to carry the torch into our next chapter". Finding a new frontman who fit the bill was always going to be a tough challenge. After 9 long months of searching for the missing "ingredient", their patience soon paid off and the line up was complete thanks to a mutual friend. Once Pat "Jimmy" was finalised in May 2011, everybody in the band could now concentrate on their roles more clearly & move forward together as a unit, ticking off the "to do list" one by one. In their 7 month existence, D&C have already supported: Heroes For Hire, I Call Fives (USA), The Mission In Motion, Sound Of Seasons, Caulfield, Ghosts On Broadway & Atlantis Awaits (ACT). Extending their fun, upbeat tunes all over the state, wearing their hearts out to anyone who cares to witness. Building & maintaining a fan base that is growing rapidly each & every day. A sold out show with alternative rockers, Chemical Transport @ Oxford Art Factory in October won audiences & critics over with their tight & energetic performance. Their creative fusion sound can be best described as "Djent - pop punk", "Pop-core", "Mosh-pop" or "Breakdown-pop". All members sharing an eclectic taste of music influences ranging from powerpop to death metal. The cohesive sound of D&C is unlike any Australian band out there. Blending an amalgamation of heavy-pop with a radio-friendly vibe. In similar vein to popular heavyweights: A Day To Remember & The Amity Affliction, combined with the commercial appeal of Fall Out Boy & Mariana's Trench. While incorporating the cross over underground tones of up & coming bands like: City Lights, Life On Repeat, & Memphis May Fire. A genre known for it's tight, orchestrated & well executed cacophony of sound, this quintet packs a punch which will leave the listener down for the count & subsequently requesting more. Solid polyrhythmic drum patterns matched with smooth pulsating bass lines, paralleled by intricate guitar licks, alongside a strong stage presence & with three main vocalists to intertwine & harmonise, their live show captures every essence of their layered & well produced recordings to a science. Divide & Conquer bring new meaning to the term, DIY. Covering all aspects of music from writing, recording, promotion, managing, self - booking to creating online videos. With a determined work ethic, they truly understand the importance of being independent. "If we can do it ourselves, we will. This day & age, you don't need anybody but yourself. You have all the tools you need to be successful on the internet." 2012 is looking to shape up even better. In February, they're supporting recently USA signed to Rise Records, Hands Like Houses. This year is off to a great start & there's only one way up from here. These five suburban kids from Sydney's north-west are going places. Let's hope it's in a town near you.
