About Dee King
Not to be confused with Dee Dee King English pop/rock songstress Dee King was originally a secretary employed by the the Ivy League to run their fan club. King was rewarded by John Carter and Ken Lewis, the group's managing members, with a chance to make a record of her own. She chose to re-cut The Jaynetts ' "Sally Go 'Round the Roses," and did so with admirable style and spirit. The single was a minor pop/girl-punk classic that won't quit from the memory, with a cool lead vocal in front of a lean garage-punk backing of organ, guitar, and rhythm section. With a little more amplification and an off-key flourish or two on the guitar, this might've passed for a Tryfles demo featuring Lesya Karpilov King disappeared from music after this little career vignette, but later re-emerged as Diane Keene and became a well-known actress in England. by Bruce Eder
