About DJ Lixx
Lixx (www.djlixx.com), with a real name Michal Sekera, comes from Trnava, the town in the west part of Slovakia. As a teenager, he got in contact the first time with electronic music at the end of 1990s. Prodigy, Baby D, Jam&Spoon or U96 and, by that ime, for him a new, unknown energy in their production made him and his friends force listening to the music also to his classmates at every suitable occasion. Devoting to rave, hardcore and trance styles, he met people who stayed behind alternative music scene in Trnava. He watched djs on techno and house parties and in the meantime, at home, also thanks to Goldie, he started to discover a new music style for him. He was fully ravished by drum&bass sometime in 2000, after watching one of the first live performances of Bad Company. At that time, he got from the passive listening to the other side of turntables and at the same year, he made his first performances in his home town. He felt like a fish in water when standing behind turntables and playing on the second stages of techno parties ultimately led to co-operation with the group of local drum&bass enthusiasts. Together with them, at the end of 2001,in a new bar called „Rozkoš“, he founded the local drum&bass party BEATZ (www.beatz.sk), which is well-known today. During that period, he met famous people of Slovak drum&bass scene and alongside djs like Gabanna, Galagha, Blupcat or Larry+, he got an opportunity to play on well-known drum&bass parties all over Slovakia. The most important for his next drum&bass life was the performance on Doubledecker party, alongside with D.Kay. When the performance was over, he got an offer for co-opearation with Drumatique, who was a well-known drum&bass booking in Slovakia at that time. He has got pleasant memories at that period of his life also thanks to a fantastic man, dj Gabanna. At the time, when his name often appeared on flyers of Bratislava’s clubs U.Club and Duna, his party BEATZ grew larger and a small bar space became insufficient. Therefore he moved BEATZ to the new place in Trnava, K-Klub, today known as Art Klub. In the next years he continually improves mixing skills and besides many playings for Slovak audience, he heade for several clubs in The Czech Republic. In 2002, he won the second post in the mixing competition JIM BEAM WANTED. In 2004, he started to co-operate with the group of producers, djs and video graphics SIGNAII (www.signall.sk), which have resident drum&bass parties in many Slovak clubs at that time. Subsequently, he becomes their member. Together with L Plus and Kukurica, he travels to play in Austria and neighbouring Poland and so he has more and more skills with playing alongside the big names of drum&bass, for example: Calyx, Teebee, Subfocus, Marky, Concord Dawn, Ed Rush & Optical, Mathematics, Matrix, Brookes Brothers and many more. He performed on various festivals like Pohoda, Hodokvas, Nočné Vlny or Lokal Life and in all more known clubs in Slovakia. „Drum&Bass is about energy, feelings, but mainly about fun!“ And his mixes are exactly about those topics. At the beginning, he preferred dark and hard drum&bass, but step by step by his musical growing, his style range highly increased. In his mixed sets designated for dancefloor, positive energy from liquidfung to hardstep is predominated, often spiced with scratching. As he says: „The Biggest reward for every DJ is certainly a full dancefloor of ingenuously happy people enjoying themselves!“ He is dedicated to drum&bass practically every day in various forms, but besides this, he likes also other genres like IDEM, downtempo, ambient, breakbeat, minimal house, psytrance, or “ninja tune” hiphop. Next years are mainly about multi-genre ideas and new projects. In 2006, Lixx is joining together with slovak producer Foolk (www.foolk.net) (former Foolcut) and after their first gig on NuJazz Days 2006, he performs as a scratching dj with his Live-act together with various live musicians. This project was later transformed into form of Foolk & Dj Lixx, especially on live gigs. In 2008, Foolk’s debut album ‘Red Pills For Daddy’ is coming out on slovak Deadred Records and also Lixx is appearing on it with scratching. At this time (2009), this couple is travelling between slovak clubs and festivals with their live performance tuned mainly into abstract hip-hop interlaced with various samples, mash-ups and noises into one compact complex. In September 2007, he started to run drum&bass radio show SIGNAII_FM (www.myspace.com/signallfm) together with slovak producer/dj L Plus on well known slovak Radio_FM. From April 2008, as L Plus left this project, Lixx is preparing and moderate this show alone. From that time, he is bringing fresh news from worldwide and domestic drum&bass scene with a lot of interesting music to listeners every two weeks. Year 2008 brought co-operation with dnb.sk (www.dnb.sk) in place, which is only web in Slovakia dedicated fully to drum&bass. Lixx becomes its editor and is writing news & articles about music in general. Alongside that, he is also participate on other activities within dnb.sk. At a turn of 2008/2009, they started new project together called Slovak Drum&Bass Awards – yearly survey, which is mapping slovak drum&bass scene. In 2009 he moved ahead, stops actively working in BEATZ party organisation team and he is now fully concentrating to his radio show SIGNAII_FM and other musical activities. Except drum&bass and continuing co-operation with Foolk, he is starting also some non-drum&bass activities on the field of djing. As a one of results, new interesting mixed musical story series Lifelines comes into existence, which is combining IDM with movie music and spoken word. In April 2009, Lixx becomes ‘Best Slovak DJ of 2008’ in Slovak Drum&Bass Awards 2008 surwey and what will be next? We will see.
