Crash The Car

About Crash The Car

Crash the Car is the project of songwriter Kyle Cashen, performing alone or sometimes with a band; playing alt-folk style indie rock with electronic elements. Members of the rotating cast have included: Jordy Walker, Micah Smith, Kim Barlow, Jake Jenne, Ken Hermanson, Fiona Solon, Derek Wyatt, Lonnie Powell, Adrian Bergman, David Sutton, Andre Gagne, and Johnny Rodgers. Born out of a lifetime of playing music, and an introspective and exploratory style, Kyle has crafted Crash the Car using immaculate soundscapes, sweet melodies and vision-inspiring lyrics. Preferring to write in solitude then collaborate and reshape, the music is unique and engrossing, and Crash the Car captures and imprints the ear of music appreciators and musicians alike. Press: ‘Crash the Car’s debut disc, They Built Houses Here, offers evocative, poetic soundscapes and songs of stark, melancholic beauty delivered with a sound like Chad VanGaalen fronting the Wooden Stars.’ MD Stewart, FFWD ‘Crash the Car features poetic lyrics set amongst the ambient hum of gentle guitar, infused with the familiar and unfamiliar sounds of instruments and found objects…live sets are filled with Cashen constantly reaching his foot to another pedal, looping his vocals, utilizing a delicate range of spontaneous sounds and meticulously layering the ethereal levels into a cohesive blend.’ Tara McCarthy, What’s Up Yukon ‘There is something about Cashen’s record that harks back to (Neil) Young’s Harvest recording of 38 years ago….There is honesty in his voice and immediacy of music that hit me at a gut level.’ Bill Polonsky, Discourse
