About Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne

Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne (born in 1996) is a British folk singer and musician playing Anglo concertina and melodeon. He is co-founder of Granny's Attic. Learning violin at primary school exposed Braithwaite-Kilcoyne to traditional British tunes, while during a holiday to visit family in Barbados when aged 10 he heard a band playing traditional Bajan folk music. At 13 he was introduced to guitarist George Sansome and violinist Lewis Wood by a teacher, and they formed the band Granny's Attic soon after. Braithwaite-Kilcoyne’s solo repertoire is rooted in the English folk tradition, with a particular interest in the music of the West Midlands. His solo albums include Outway Songster (2017) (nominated for the Horizon Award for best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2018) and Rakes & Misfits (2021). Alongside performing solo and with Granny's Attic, Braithwaite-Kilcoyne has been involved in several other collaborations working with musicians such as John Spiers, Damien Barber, Rosie Hood and Stick in the Wheel.
