Haskell Clyde Stacy was born in McIntosh County, Oklahoma on August 11, 1936 to Homer Harrison Stacy and Faye Maybell (Mann) Stacy. The family moved to Texas in 1951. He was living in Lubbock in 1952 attending Lubbock High School where he became friends with Buddy Holly.
