About Christian Wilhelm Podbielski

Christian Wilhelm Podbielski (1740/41–3 January 1792) was a German organist, gambist, and composer based in Königsberg. Initially trained in theology, he became organist at the Königsberg Cathedral and taught music at the local university. Among his pupils was E. T. A. Hoffmann, who later gained fame as a writer and composer. Podbielski is known for sonatas for viola da gamba and basso continuo, and collections of keyboard sonatas published in the early 1780s. His music exemplifies the Rococo and early Classical styles of northern Germany.
