About Christian Schwindt Quintet
One of the central dynamos of Finnish jazz, Christian Schwindt founded his group in 1963. "For Friends and Relatives", which kicks off with the tune "Helsinki at Noon", remains the only LP recorded by the outfit, and as such, remains an invaluable chapter in the scarcely recorded Finnish modern jazz, and makes a historically important duo with another classic, Esa Pethman's "The Modern Sound of Finland". Listening to their tunes, it's easy to imagine oneself strolling along the shorelines of Kaivopuisto to groove in an eternal midsummer's day. To quote Åke L. Granholm's original liner notes: "Although the personnel of the group has gone through some changes during the last year, it has maintained a consistent policy of modernism combined with personal flavour in its music." Consistent policy of modernism - what's there to add.
