About Ben Petry

Ben Petry has been playing music & writing/recording songs since he was a teenager. He used to be the singer/bass player for the Cincinnati based Melodic Hard Core band Drop Shadow. Other members included Nick Wientge; drums, Tim Kindberg; guitar, Mike Gruber; keyboards, and Kris Swain; drums. Drop Shadow was most recognized for it's debut album "Blue" released in 2000. Popular tracks such as "Nothing Left" and "Needles" quickly brought this unique band to the forefront of the Cincinnati music scene. Other albums included " Buried In The Chemical Underground " 2002, and a rare six song E.P. best known as "The Chicago Demos" 2003 with popular tracks such as "Grenade" and "Fade Away". Drop Shadow's seven year run included consistent touring throughout the Mid West and East Coast. However, the band eventually separated in 2003 because of creative differences and desires to pursue other aspirations. Ben's road lead him to Los Angeles. When he was living in Hollywood, he wrote musical pieces for TV and Film based off the sound of his electronic solo project "Emotional Breakdown" which began in 2001 with the debut release "Disfunction". During his time in L.A., he also performed original acoustic songs regularly throughout various clubs in Hollywood, Santa Monica, and other parts of the West Coast. Building off of these songs that he wrote along his journey, they paved the foundation for the Alternative Rock band, Autumn Bound. Ben provided vocals and guitar. The three piece band also included Brett Sholtis: bass, Brian Hollenbeck; drums. Autumn Bound gave a hard edge to his acoustic songs with tracks such as "High" and "Motel Getaway". Thriving off steady performances, a dynamic live sound, and demo in the making, everything seemed well on track. The band's small victory sadly began to end with the strange, unknown disappearance of Brett Sholtis in 2004. On top of many other circumstances and the moral need of putting his family before work, he found himself aborting his short lived L.A glory and ended up back in Cincinnati. Fate would have it that he ended up replacing former bass player, Brian Bruemmer, of the Cincinnati based hard rock band, Langus. He currently plays bass/keyboards for Langus and sings along side Chris Rook; vocals/guitar. Other members include Todd Chumbley; drums, and Jon Parnell; guitar. Since his arrival to the band, he's become one of the key writers to the music and lyrics on such tracks as "Falling Again" and "Running In Place". Langus's full length album "Running In Place", was successfully released on April 18th, 2008. They have been fortunate enough to perform with such acts as Breaking Benjamin, Hinder, Jet, and Shinedown at venues such as Bogarts, The Madison Theater, Ziggy's, and the annual Cincinnati WEBN Fireworks. Aside from his current role in Langus and Emotional Breakdown, he continues to write songs of many genres including Rock, Acoustic, Pop Punk, Alternative, Electronic, and Soundtrack music for Video Games, Television, and Film.
