Alternate Learning was the first band fronted by Scott Miller, later the lead singer/songwriter for Sacramento/Bay Area alternative rock luminaries Game Theory and The Loud Family. Alternate Learning's line-up was Scott Miller, Joe Becker (later in Thin White Rope, Game Theory and The Loud Family), Kern Scott Gallawa, Carolyn O'Rourke, Byl Miller, and Eric Landers. The band released only two recordings: ALRN (7"EP, 1979) and Painted Windows (LP, 1981). Only 1000 copies of the record were pressed and it has been out of print for nearly 30 years. One song from the band's repetoire--"Beach State Rocking"--was re-recorded by Game Theory and issued as collector bait on the band's greatest hits compilation.
