About A Broad Green
a broad green is a collective of one. J. R. Newton is a broad green. Born 4th December 1965, in the industrial town of Salford, U.K. At the age of 7 his parents moved north to escape the junkies and homeless people that had taken over his parents home. (One of his earliest memories of going downstairs to find a naked woman lying in front of the fire.) His love of music began soon after this move. He desperately wanted to play the trombone, but was denied by his music teacher, saying that his arms were too short. He has never learnt to play the trombone. Being traumatised by the whole sordid tale, he later formed the Hedges a punk /post punk band that had some success on the gig circuit in the north of England. After ten years of going nowhere he formed Wan Light, with his future wife, the Mooglestar. This went nowhere, (the band, not the marriage). Mooglestar can currently be heard singing backing vocals on a broad green.
